History of Scandinavian Specialties

In the early 1980's, Liv Eggen Benschine, a native of Norway, began a business that provided her with an avenue to share her passion of the Scandinavian culture.  The concept for the business began during a trip to Norway where she visited an old friend and past employer, Uni David-Anderson, a fourth generation of the legendary David-Anderson jewelry designer. During this visit Uni suggested that she should start selling her jewelry in the United States. The business began with 16 pieces of bronze jewelry, first displayed at a festival in Westbury Gardens, New York. The positive response to the Scandinavian jewelry was the inspiration and confirmation to take the business to the next level, offering jewelry to retail stores.

Liv began expanding the import business to include a variety of products from all of the Scandinavian countries - Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland.   What first started out as a small business with 16 pieces jewelry has now expanded to offering a wide variety of product lines some of which include Norwegian Art prints, music, sweaters, trolls, pewter gift items and much more.

Scandinavian Specialties participated in their first gift shows in 1990 at the Minneapolis Gift Mart as well as Boston, Seattle and New York and has been attending gift shows ever since.  In July 1999, the company moved from New York to Hudson, Wisconsin.  In April of 2002, Scandinavian Specialties acquired a permanent show room (B164) located at the Gift Mart in Minneapolis, MN.
